Whether you’re new to autism or a vet, there will be information there for you as well as networking with others. Learn about Special Education, (ABA) Applied Behavior Analysis, Circle of Friends and how to create social situations, what are your rights in special education and how to apply and what waivers are you eligible for. ASD Family Camp out at the Henry Doorly Zoo Aquarium

Come join us for a family sleepover at the Henry Doorly Zoo!  Families from the Autism Society as well as Lincoln’s Autism Family Network will be coming together to spend the night in the NEW aquarium center on Saturday, June 23rd.   You don’t have to already be a member of one of our groups to join us!

This is a perfect event for everyone!  Send in your registration and plan a weekend getaway in Omaha! You’ve got your sleeping arrangements for Saturday already booked!  You get to spend the night at one of the nation’s top zoos!  Your camping fee even covers admission on Sunday so you can spend the entire day exploring!

The cost of the overnight stay is $30 per person.

World Autism Awareness Day – Join us at the Lincoln Children’s Museum!

In celebration of the 5th annual United Nations World Autism Awareness Day, the Autism Society of Nebraska and the Autism Family Network are hosting an event at the Lincoln Children’s Museum. The museum will open on April 1 offering free admission. We will be a shining blue spotlight on the public health crisis of autism and support everyone who struggles with this disorder.

Dress in blue and join us on April 1 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. We will have volunteers to play and help with the kids, snacks and a balloon drop toward the end of the evening. Please RSVP at afnlincoln@aol.com.

More ways to Light It Up Blue

· Wear blue clothing or your Autism Speaks puzzle piece, and encourage your coworkers to do the same.

· Light your house up blue by putting blue light bulbs in any outdoor fixtures.

· Turn your website blue or change your profile picture on Facebook to the Light It Up Blue logo at www.lightitupblue.org.

The Lincoln Children’s Museum is located 1420 P Street in Downtown Lincoln.

LINCOLN: Autism Family Network Parent Information Meeting

Tuesday, March 6, 2012
6:30pm – 7:30pm
South Gate Church  3500 Pioneers Blvd

Join the Autism Family Network for the Parent Information Meeting and invite SLPs, OTs, resource teachers, paras, and classroom teachers that work with a student with an AAC device. AFN will sponsor Ashli Florang from Dynavox Technologies at Southgate Methodist Church at 6:30pm – 7:30pm. She will answer questions about programming and also demonstrate some of their models. We will also discuss more upcoming events at AFN and what parents have for ideas for AFN to sponsor. CHILDCARE WILL BE PROVIDED.

Parents will meet afterwards to network, ask any questions, or get information about upcoming events.


LINCOLN: CHIP Child Identification Program

There are over 800,000 children reported missing in the United States each year. The Nebraska Freemasons Child Identification Program (CHIP) program is holding and event in cooperation with the Autism Family Network & Autism Society of Nebraska.

Nebraska City: Autism Support Group Forming

Join us on November 5th and meet others living with and/or have children under the ASD umbrella. Our goal is to share stories, what worked, what didn’t, spread awareness to the community and offer education and support. Our group is for parents, guardians, individuals, teachers, educators, doctors or anyone that would like to learn more about autism!

We will stay overnight in the aquarium and have a behind the scenes tour of some animal exhibits.
