On Saturday, the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department and the ASN-Omaha Autism Family Support Group sponsored a free Fire and Safety Day for area Autism families. Over 40 children attended a fun filled day at the firestation. The children learned about seatbelt safety and watched a roll over display. They practiced dialing 911 and discussed the reasons for making that phone call. They practiced crawling out of a smoke trailer and were even assisted in climbing out the bedroom window. The firemen even put on their full protective gear to show the children what they would look like in the event of a fire. Some children even got belted on a guerney and wheeled out of an ambulence. All in all, it was a fun day where the children were able to take it at their own pace. This was an amazing day for the children…and the firemen!
