UNMC Research Project Sleep Well – seeking participants

Dr. Kevin Luczynski and Dr. Tara Loughrey are currently recruiting participants for a study on treating sleep disturbances (e.g., delayed sleep onset and nighttime wakings) in children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The study will evaluate the efficacy of a behavioral therapy combined with melatonin, a natural compound that regulates sleep cycles. Parents will be trained in our clinic to implement the treatments in their home and will receive in-home monitoring with feedback by experts at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The research will include a brief-intake meeting, some training, monitoring and feedback on implementing sleep treatment strategies, and a post-study debriefing. We are recruiting starting in November of 2012. The study will run for about a four-month period. Meeting dates and times will be arranged based on caregivers’ schedules.
