More Alike Than Different – 4 film series in conjunction with Disabilities Awareness Month
2012 SPRING, Event by other community organization, Event sponsored by ASN. 12 February 2012 @ 11:48 am.This March, Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater will host a special four-film series in conjunction with Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. A four-film series presented in conjunction with Disabilities Awareness Month. All shows free, with post-show panel discussions.
The “More Alike Than Different” series is a collaboration between Film Streams and the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities and funded in part by the Nebraska Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities. For each particular screening, Film Streams and the Meyer Foundation will partner with additional organizations based on the subject matter, including Nebraska Hands & Voices, Autism Society Nebraska, Autism Action Partnership, Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands, PTI Nebraska, Goodwill Omaha and Ollie Webb Center, Inc.
Screenings in the “More Alike Than Different” series will take place every Monday in March. The films will start at 7 p.m., with post-show panel discussions featuring self advocates and professionals discussing opportunities and misperceptions about disabilities.
All four screenings in the series are FREE and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved in advance by emailing Maggie Wood at maggie@filmstreams.org or by visiting the box office inside Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater prior to the event date. A limited number of seats are available for each screening, so making reservations in advance is highly recommended.
