Call to Action: Working towards an Insurance Mandate
Announcements. 21 September 2010 @ 11:25 am.We would like to share a letter from one of our constituents who is working hard to bring together the autism community to advance an insurance mandate here in the state of Nebraska. The Autism Society wants to remind everyone that together anything is possible!
Dear Friends,
As many of you know, Autism Speaks, some “autism moms,” the Autism Action Partnership and I are helping with an autism mandate that would force insurance companies to pay for various autism-related therapies. We cannot do this alone. I am asking you to please call everyone you know and ask them to participate in calling their state senators.
Please then fill out the family tree form and add your volunteers names. I have also attached a legislature spreadsheet. The spread sheet has the district numbers, senator’s names and all of the contact information. If you would please add your volunteers from your family tree to that list and, again, send it back to me I’d truly appreciate it.
Here is the website where you can find your local senators:
We need to make a phone tree so that we can make sure our volunteers are contacting their actual senators. Let me know if you are interested in helping as it is far too great a job for only one person.
I will be sending you all a form letter soon. When it is time to contact the senators, please make a copy for yourself and email it to your contacts. Although we will be emailing as well, a written letter is a tangible object. Sometimes people do not respond to emails or phone calls, but it is difficult to ignore a stack of letters sitting on a desk. I am trying to make this as easy and painless as possible and I’m thanking you in advance for your cooperation!
I will let you all know when to start contacting the senators. We need people to call from every district and get the word out that our friends and family members affected by autism spectrum disorder are entitled to help. I thank you so much for your time, talent and energy with regards to getting this important bill passed!
Sincerely,
Colleen Jankovich

The Autism Society encourages you to contact your family and friends and ask for their help as the autism community works to build a calling tree. Right now all you will be asking of them is their willingness to make a phone call (at a later date) to their senator asking them to please show their support for the autism community.
Our biggest challenge right now is making sure that our volunteers are contacting their particular elected official. Success will depend on find support and volunteers in EVERY district. We need every senator to know that they have constituents who are impacted by this autism epidemic!
Please be sure that your family is okay with you sharing their information and then forward to Colleen Jankovich at colleenandjt@yahoo.com.
